Loving Me God’s Way: Unveling The Treasure Within

Imagine setting out on a treasure hunt, not for gold or jewels, but for something far more precious: the treasure hidden within your own heart. God, the ultimate treasure map maker, has already marked the spot.

Psalm 139:13-16 reveals the depth of His involvement in this hidden wealth: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb… your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." He didn't simply bury a generic chest; He carefully placed unique riches within you, knowing you intimately before you even drew breath. Jeremiah 1:5 confirms this pre-ordained purpose, reminding us that God knew and set us apart even before our birth. Ephesians 2:10 declares we are His "workmanship," created in Christ Jesus for good works—treasures prepared in advance for us to unearth.

This journey of self-discovery is like carefully excavating a hidden trove. It’s not about creating something new; it’s about uncovering the invaluable treasure God has already placed within. It’s a journey of aligning ourselves with His pre-ordained purpose, a journey toward Christlikeness, or sanctification.

Lamentations 3:40 urges us, "Let us examine our ways and test them," and 2 Corinthians 13:5 echoes this call to self-examination: "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves." This introspection isn’t about self-condemnation, but about carefully sifting through the layers of our lives to identify the hidden gems and recognize the areas where debris might be obscuring our true value. It’s about being refined from worldly ways and shaped more into the likeness of Christ.

Start Digging: Questions for Self-Excavation

As you begin to dig, consider these questions:

  • What recurring patterns do you notice surfacing in your life, like clues leading to buried treasure?
  • Do you struggle to surrender to God, preferring the illusion of self-sufficiency rather than trusting the map He has provided?
  • Do you find yourself constantly performing, driven by a desire to earn love and acceptance, as if the treasure is external validation rather than an internal reality?
  • Do you succumb to a scarcity mindset, allowing worry to cloud your judgment and obscure the abundance Christ offers?

Unearthing these patterns, both positive and negative, is essential to discovering the treasure within. While self-knowledge illuminates our weaknesses, allowing us to remove the layers of dirt and grime that conceal our true worth, it also reveals the incredible potential God has embedded within us—the true riches of our being. It’s the catalyst for living out our unique God-given purpose, the very reason the treasure was buried in the first place.

More Clues to Uncover Your Riches

Consider these further clues:

  • What are your strengths and gifts, the glittering gems waiting to be discovered?
  • Do you radiate love, serving others with a heart of genuine compassion, like sharing a portion of your discovered treasure?
  • Do you demonstrate faithfulness through diligence, consistency, and unwavering commitment, guarding the treasure you’ve found?
  • Do you speak truth with gentleness and grace, using your words to illuminate the path for others on their own treasure hunts?

Knowing yourself, rooted in an accurate knowledge of God—the one who buried the treasure—fosters deeper intimacy with Him and provides a clear path for spiritual growth. It allows us to cleanse ourselves from sin, removing the tarnish that dulls our shine, and be sanctified—vessels set apart for honorable use, ready to share the riches we’ve uncovered (2 Timothy 2:20-21). This self-discovery, guided by God's word, empowers us to fully embrace the treasure He designed us to be.
