Glow Up & Grow Up In God’s Grace
Day 16: Taming the Mind 🤔
Tired of the inner battle? The constant war between self-love and self-doubt can be exhausting. But you're not alone. Countless individuals have struggled with negative thoughts, allowing them to dim their inner light.
Let's change the narrative. Imagine a life where you embrace your unique beauty, where self-assurance blossoms, and negativity withers away. It's time to cultivate a garden of positivity within your mind.
Defying the Enemy
The enemy of our souls, Satan, is a master of deception. He delights in planting seeds of doubt, fear, and despair in our minds. But we can resist his tactics by:
* Practicing Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding you'd offer a friend. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, deserving of respect and care.
* Embracing God's Love: Let the love of Christ shine through your life. Cultivate virtues like joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control. True beauty radiates from within.
Wielding the Word
The Bible is a powerful tool for renewing our minds. It's filled with promises, encouragement, and practical advice. By immersing ourselves in God's Word, we can:
* Transform Our Perspective: Read God's Word daily, meditate on its truths, and allow it to reshape your thinking.
* Cultivate a Positive Community: Surround yourself with like-minded believers who will uplift and encourage you. Choose friendships that inspire you to live a life that glorifies God.
The Art of Thought Filtering
Not every thought that enters our minds is worth entertaining. By practicing the art of thought filtering, we can:
* Discern Harmful Thoughts: Identify negative, unproductive, or untrue thoughts and gently dismiss them.
* Replace with Positive Thoughts: Cultivate a mindset of gratitude, hope, and faith.
Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. By cultivating a positive mindset, embracing God's love, and surrounding yourself with uplifting influences, you can overcome negative self-talk and achieve a healthy body image.
Let's embark on this journey together. Your future self will thank you.
Reference Scriptures - pray this prayer as you open your heart, mind and bible
Heavenly Father, May Your Holy Spirit illuminate my mind with a deep understanding of Your Word. Grant me an intense desire to seek You daily through Scripture. Empower me to discern Your divine will and purpose for my life. Shield me from distractions and fill my heart and mind with Your enlightening revelation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”
Romans 12:1-2 MSG
{The best way to combat negative thoughts and negative self talk is to constantly surrender yourself to the Lord and allow him to renew your mind which changes the way you do everything sleeping, eating, going-to-work because you’re doing it for and with God you’ll be changed from the inside out. Plus in doing so you will allow God to fully develop you into how he sees you}
“But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good—crucified. Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.”
Galatians 5:23-26 MSG
{I think we all know these verses but the message version of this passage just lays it out so perfectly so relook at those descriptions of each fruit because sometimes I think we become to familiar with the way we say it (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness & self control) and don’t realize the actual outward representation of what those fruit look like when exhibited by a person, but once you relook at the descriptions examine your life and be completely honest with yourself what can you truly say you exhibit and the ones that you don’t identify with pray about and ask the Holy Spirit to produce in you what you are missing but these fruit come from being so transformed in our hearts by the spirit that we live Gods way, grow in consistency of being in his presence, allowing him to kill off or crucify what we thinks is us & letting the spirit lead which in turn will end up removing us from the trap of comparison, envy or judging ourselves because we will be so focused on the process(s) the spirit will be doing in and through us it won’t even cross our mind which is what true renewal of the mind looks like}
“then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ. Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.”
Philippians 4:7-8 TPT
{Choosing to only focus on things true, honorable, right, pure, lovely & admirable is a form of thought filtering it’s also a mental checklist to reform your thoughts whether thinking about yourself, others, your job, your finances whatever if it doesn’t fall into any of those categories it isn’t from or of God so get it out of your mind and refocus on these things a practical way is to have a list of verses, phrases or affirmations that fall into these categories to be able to combat any negative or contrary thoughts as soon as they pop up}
“A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect —life in its fullness until you overflow!”
John 10:10 TPT
{Negative thoughts and self talk steal your peace, kill your dreams and destroy your hope or motivation…. I thinks it’s easy to see where they come from and why we can’t allow them to stay 🤷🏽♀️}
“What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.”
Proverbs 18:21 GNT
{Another version says the power of life and death are In The tongue which means what we say matters even to ourselves so be mindful of what you allow to take root and what you profess with your mouth which is to come into agreement with whatever you are saying and know that you must accept the consequences of your words so sometimes we wonder why our circumstances aren’t changing and our speech hasn’t changed so just think about that}
“[Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),”
2 Corinthians 10:5 AMPC
{The practical way to refute arguments, theories or reasonings is having a list of verses, promises, affirmations that echo God’s word and the true knowledge of him while taking captive every faulty pattern of thought that tries to defy God’s authority}
“We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.”
Romans 8:28 AMPC
{This is reassuring in the sense that God has already planned and predestined everything working to our benefit our job is to trust in his sovereignty and know even though we can’t see the grand scheme of things we know God is intentional and works out every detail so trust and rest in who he is and allow him to cook 🤣}

A Visual Meditation: Tending Your Inner Garden
Find a quiet space, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Imagine a serene garden, a peaceful oasis. This garden represents your mind.
As you explore this garden, you notice some weeds sprouting up. These weeds symbolize the negative thoughts and self-doubt that often creep into your mind. Focus on one weed at a time, visualizing its roots digging deep into the soil of your thoughts. With each breath, imagine yourself gently pulling the weed from the ground, releasing it into the wind. As you uproot each weed, you feel the tension release & are overcome with a sense of relief and lightness, as you cast them aside.
Now, picture yourself picture yourself kneeling planting seeds of positivity in the freshly cleared soil. You hold a handful of seeds, each one representing a positive thought or affirmation of self-worth, love, and gratitude. As you plant each seed, visualize it sprouting into a beautiful flower, a symbol of your growing self-confidence.
The garden is bathed in warm sunlight, a metaphor for God's love and grace. Feel this love nourishing your soul, helping your positive thoughts to flourish. Visualize the garden thriving, filled with vibrant colors and fragrant blooms. Each flower represents a positive thought or belief about yourself.
As you continue to meditate, let the peace and tranquility of the garden fill your mind and soul. Know that with God's help, you can overcome negative thoughts and cultivate a thriving garden of positivity.

Empower me to resist temptation and courageously pursue Your will. May I be a beacon of Your love and grace, shining brightly in a dark world.
